Thymosin was first extracted from calf thymus by Goldstein and White in 1966. According to the different isoelectric points, thymosin can be divided into three categories: α, β, and γ. At present, more than 20 β-thymosin isomers have been identified, and there are three main types in the human body, namely Tβ4, Tβ10 and Tβ15 , of which Tβ4 content is the highest.

Tβ4 is a water-soluble polypeptide with a highly conserved structure consisting of 43 amino acid residues.
